ALPINE CONSERVATION / GENETICS NOTEBOOK
Kinship Keeper
Eight pikas. Four pairs. A more diverse next generation.
Your nursery brief
Tap two animals to propose a pair, then Confirm pair. Pair everyone once. Keep every pair’s kinship at or below 12.5% and reach the nursery’s average diversity target.
Different gene letters increase expected offspring diversity. Shared parent letters mean relatives: full siblings have 25% kinship, half siblings 12.5%, unrelated 0%. The portraits do not encode genes.

Parent letters are IDs. Gene I / II show two inherited alleles per locus.
How this model works · source
Expected diversity is the probability that a child has two different alleles, averaged over two synthetic loci and four possible gamete combinations. Pedigree kinship is the probability that randomly chosen parental alleles are identical by descent. This toy model omits sex, age, health, linked genes and real conservation constraints; it is not breeding advice.
